Phishing Scams: How To Stay Protected
- Suspicious or unfamiliar emails. If you receive an email that looks suspicious or is from an unknown sender, do not provide any personal information, open any attachments, or click on any links.
- Unsecured websites. Sometimes, a URL (web address) may appear legitimate, but it could lead you to a fraudulent copycat website. Make sure the URL begins with "https://," which indicates that the site is secure. Instead of clicking on a URL in an email, type the official web address directly into your browser.
- Beware of urgency: Many fraudsters use scare tactics to pressure you into acting quickly or to create a sense of panic. Be cautious and verify any urgent requests for information.
