10/21/2025

Members First Credit Union is proud to support an innovative initiative at Freeland Learning Center: the launch of the school’s new book vending machine.Book Vending Machine

This exciting project was made possible through Members First’s role as a Presenting Sponsor for the Sleepy Dog Books Foundation Golden Gala, where the credit union chose Freeland Learning Center as the recipient. The Sleepy Dog Books Foundation, based in Mt. Pleasant, has donated thousands of books across Michigan to promote children’s literacy, inspire a love of reading, and encourage both academic and personal growth.

“The Freeland Learning Center extends heartfelt thanks to Members First Credit Union for their generous donation of our new book vending machine,” shared Izabella Lopez, Principal of Freeland Learning Center. “This special addition allows us to recognize students for their positive choices while spreading the joy of reading throughout our school—creating a culture that celebrates both literacy and positive character. With book donations and continued support from the Sleepy Dog Books Foundation and the Freeland Parent Teacher Organization, this project truly reflects the power of community partnerships supporting student growth and success.”

The vending machine gives students access to a wide selection of engaging books designed to spark curiosity and a love of learning. Students can earn books through positive choices, creating an exciting incentive to read and explore new stories.

"At Members First, we believe in supporting our local schools and creating opportunities that promote education and personal growth," said Chelsea McKenzie, Community Impact Specialist at Members First Credit Union. "This project is an exciting way to combine literacy with positive reinforcement, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it."

Members First Credit Union is proud to support initiatives that foster education, community, and joy. Through projects like this, the credit union remains dedicated to empowering students and giving back to the communities it serves.
