Members First Credit Union: Creating Thriving Communities

Community comes to life when people come together, lend a helping hand, and work to create places where everyone can thrive.

That’s exactly what Members First Credit Union team members did during our Day of Impact, spending a busy, hands-on day giving their time and energy to nonprofit organizations across nine Michigan counties. With 224 team members volunteering with 19 nonprofit organizations, the day was filled with teamwork, meaningful moments and plenty of joy. From packing food and assembling essential items to planting trees and lending a hand with projects big and small, team members brought their time, talents, and energy wherever they were needed. And while every organization had a different need, the heart behind the day was the same: A Day to Serve. A Day to Celebrate Community. A Day of Impact!

Bay County

Foster Families NRC

At Foster Families NRC, team members helped prepare the organization’s Clothing Boutique for the changing season. The boutique supports foster, adoptive and kinship families by providing new clothing, toys and books, all at no cost. Volunteers swapped out summer clothing for fall and winter items, organized the racks and helped create a welcoming space where families can easily find what they need.

Clare County

Mid Michigan Community Action Food Warehouse

Team members rolled up their sleeves at the MMCAA Food Warehouse, working on the production line to pack items into boxes. Their efforts helped prepare food for distribution to individuals and families in the community.

United Way of Clare and Gladwin County

A big project called for plenty of teamwork. Volunteers helped assemble 500 hygiene packs for students and community members across Clare and Gladwin counties. Of those, 250 will go to students at five local schools, while another 250 will be distributed through local shelters, organizations, groups, and churches throughout the two counties.

Gladwin County

New Dawn Shelter

At New Dawn Shelter, volunteers took on a storage organization project from top to bottom. They sorted, cleaned, packaged and organized supplies, creating a more functional space and making it easier for the shelter team to find what they need when they need it.

Gladwin County Baby Pantry At the Baby Pantry, team members helped make the seasonal transition from summer to fall and winter. Volunteers sorted and organized clothing and prepared seasonal items to make it easier for families to find what they need.

Isabella County

Sleepy Dog Books Foundation

At Sleepy Dog Books Foundation, volunteers helped support literacy by organizing and assembling literacy packages. From preparing materials to putting resources together, their work will help put valuable literacy materials into children’s hands.

The Care Store

Team members helped The Care Store turn supplies into support by sorting hygiene products and assembling hygiene kits. With enough supplies to create several hundred kits, volunteers helped prepare essential items for people in the community.

Kent County

AYA Youth Collective

At AYA, team members spent the day supporting youth through a variety of hands-on projects. Volunteers made sandwiches, assembled and decorated youth grab bags, and helped clean and care for the space.

Ottawa County

Hand2Hand

At Hand2Hand, volunteers helped pack food for students, preparing packages to provide nutritious meals to local children. When time allowed, team members also created inspirational notes to add a little extra encouragement for students receiving the food.

Midland County

Home to Stay

At Home to Stay, volunteers put their hands to work in the furniture warehouse, organizing the space and helping keep household essentials ready for the local families the organization serves.

Phoenix Community Farms

As the growing season came to a close, team members helped Phoenix Community Farms prepare its fields for winter. Volunteers pulled weeds and dead plants and spread straw mulch over empty beds, helping get the farm ready for the next season.

United Way of Midland County

Team members helped bring an interactive trail experience to life at Longview Early Childhood Center. Volunteers installed signage and built and assembled activities designed to encourage children and families to explore, play, and learn together.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Great Lakes Bay Region

At Big Brothers Big Sisters, volunteers helped care for both the organization’s space and grounds. From landscaping and seasonal cleanup to window washing and indoor organization, team members pitched in wherever they were needed.

Grace A. Dow Memorial Library

Volunteers helped prepare Grace A. Dow Memorial Library’s flower beds for winter, spending the day deadheading hydrangeas, pulling weeds, and helping tidy the grounds for the season ahead.

Habitat for Humanity Build

Team members joined Habitat for Humanity on a local home build, helping with exterior projects that support safe, affordable housing in the community. No construction experience was necessary. Just a willingness to show up, learn, and lend a hand.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore

At the Habitat ReStore, volunteers supported the work that keeps the store moving. Team members helped customers, organized merchandise, and processed donations, helping the ReStore continue supporting Habitat for Humanity’s mission in the community.

Osceola County

Eagle Village

At Eagle Village, volunteers helped make room for new bunk beds by taking apart existing beds and loading them onto a trailer. With time left in the day, team members also pitched in with some light outdoor cleanup around the property.

Saginaw County

Hidden Harvest

At Hidden Harvest, team members helped turn bulk food into family-sized portions that are easier to distribute to local families. It was a hands-on effort that will help donated food reach more people throughout the community.

Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy

Team members got their hands in the dirt at the Saginaw River Headwaters Recreation Area, planting trees as part of the Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy’s fall planting efforts. Their work will help care for and strengthen the natural spaces that make our communities special.

Creating Thriving Communities, Together

From packing food and assembling hygiene kits to planting trees, supporting youth, and preparing spaces for the season ahead, our Day of Impact was a reminder that there are countless ways to lend a hand. Every project looked a little different, but the spirit behind the day remained the same: coming together, putting our hands to work, and helping make our communities stronger today while encouraging a better tomorrow.
